Catbuilder has all the necessary functions to create itself a catalogue on paper, CD-ROM or Internet. No additional tool is necessary.

In basic configuration, Catbuilder makes it possible to record images of type JPEG (* JPG) or Bitmap (* BMP). One specific Plug-in makes it possible to take into account approximately 80 formats of images.

The basic architecture on which Catbuilder has been concepted is a modular architecture based on the concept of ' Plug-in', i.e. libraries that can be replaced by others, communication between these libraries has been standardized.

One of the foundation plug-in of Catbuilder is the ' Import Plug-in '. In the standard configuration of Catbuilder, this plug-in allows the importation of text files (* TXT). A very simple importation function makes it possible to define the structure of the data to be imported and the way in which this information must be integrated in Catbuilder. Some rules can be observed to define levels of rupture or sorting.

A second solution is to develop a specific plug-in. If data can be reached via ODBC, we can access all information (data, texts, images) stored in an administrative information processing system.

The third solution will allow a closer integration with an existing administrative information processing system. This solution will be an 'updating engine' based on distributed objects which will be activated by a customer application as soon as data must be modified or as soon as elements must be integrated in the catalogue.

A particularly useful function in the case of companies having subsidiary is the CatExchange plug-in which makes it possible to exchange whole or part of catalogues. This function makes it possible to extract pieces of catalogues from a master site and to quickly transfer the data (images, texts, tables, presentations...) to other sites. The updating process is based on a complete 'synchronization engine'.

Catbuilder is a simple and intuitive software intended to be used directly by users and not data processing specialists. This extremely user-friendly and visual software enables you to create yourselves your own catalogues, to print them, engrave them on CD-ROM and to publish them in a completely identical way on Internet. The formating of pages is made by Catbuilder. On the basis of mask of presentations you define.

There are several ways to provide a catalogue to a printer works.

1. By means of .PDF files (Adobe Acrobat)
2. A version of the software intended for printers works is available. This version makes it possible for companies to discharge themselves from all the publication aspects by providing to the printer works a compact and complete file (containing at the same time the data and the masks of presentation) that this one will be able to process directly.
